The Literary and Debating Committee and the Core Organizing Committee at NALSAR University of Law, Hyderabad, are happy to invite you to the V Edition of the NALSAR Inter-Varsity British Parliamentary Debate.
The VI Edition of the IV will be held from 4-6 September, 2015. Being the first BP in India, we invited international adjudication core members to provide for outstanding debating experiences. Past editions have witnessed Sharmila Parmanand, Harish Natarajan, Jens Henning Fischer, Mabroor Wassey, James Kilcup, Lucinda David and Tariq Maketab in the CA Team. The NALSAR IV has traditionally seen high calibre finals, which is unsurprising given that we count Cambridge University, Loyola Marymount University and Indian teams such as NLSIU and IIT Bombay among our finalists and winners. We look forward to your participation in Hyderabad this year.
– Despite the inter-varsity tag, we have always opened our doors to institutional cross teams. An institutional cross team is one where both members belong to an institution. No non-institutional cross teams will be allowed.
– Team cap of 50 with a N-1 adjudicator requirement
– Institutional cap of 2 teams
– 5 preliminary rounds
– Registration cost is INR 2000 per person. Registration will open soon.
The NALSAR Intervarsity Debating Championship is the pioneer of the British Parliamentary Debating format in India. The idea for the NALSAR IV was born to introduce the British Parliamentary debate format to the national debating circuit and provide a preparatory ground for the WUDC (World Universities Debating Championship), the most prestigious debating championship in the world. Thus, the NALSAR IV is aimed at exposing debaters to the most competitive standards of adjudication. The NALSAR IV is organized by the Literary and Debating Committee of the NALSAR University of Law, Hyderabad, along with student volunteers who work nights to put up an impeccably organized show. The event, in its very first edition in 2011, generated remarkable interest from the national debating circuit and has successfully carved a niche for itself. The second edition, has not only lived up to the expectations that the first had created, but surpassed it, thus proving to be bigger and better, by seeing an exponential rise in participation from the first edition, with no fewer than 83 institutions worldwide registering. The second edition thus took the NALSAR IV from being India’s first ever BP tournament, to being India’s biggest debating championship, in terms of team participation. The third edition of the NALSAR IV was organized in October of the same year, as one of the largest debates in India to be provide preparatory ground for the WUDC. Also, the third edition saw arguably one of the most well coordinated, fancy break night parties that has been hosted – so that gave the participants time to network and let their hair down after the preliminary rounds. The fourth edition was bigger – in all respects, and saw many new participants, as well as some stellar matchups of veteran debaters, along with experienced CAs who provided us with rather unique motions.
This year, in order to stay on the debate calendar as a part of the BP season; we continue to deliver on that promise with the NALSAR I.V. . From the 4th to 6th September 2015, join us in Hyderabad to be a part of the original Indian BP debate, a red letter event that simply must not be missed.
We hope to see you there ! We run this tournament on the promise of outstanding adjudication, punctual rounds, challenging motions and warm hospitality.
